The Olympus Bronchoscope has been associated with the exposure and huge number of transference of bacteria and infection among the patients it has been used upon. Bronchoscopes, used for examining airways to diagnose or rule out such illnesses as lung cancer and pneumonia, consist of a small tube outfitted with a small light and camera. John Hopkins hospital alone is alerting 415 patients of the possibility. It appears that despite the sterilizing steps taken to clean the devices, at least 100 patients infected with the Psuedomonas aeruginosa bacteria have died so far. The device holds a flaw created in the manufacturing process which produces a flap which is unreachable to the sterilization process, therefore transmitting the bacteria from patient to patient upon usage.
