Today the consumer is well aware of the potential dangers and hazards that lay ahead of using very strong drugs. Arava is one such drug. It is a prescription drug, manufactured by Aventis Pharma, used to ease joint pain in case of a severe rheumatoid arthritis. It is intended for people who are not able to use other drugs. . It is a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) that reduces inflammation and slows disease progression of rheumatoid arthritis. It reduces the pain, stiffness, inflammation, and swelling associated with this disease, and staves off the joint damage that ultimately results. Rheumatic arthritis is a chronic inflammatory illness. It is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks normal tissue components. Patients develop hardened lumps under their skin, called nodules. These nodules can cause cartilage and bone destruction. Bone destruction causes deformity and immobility of the joint. Side effects are not welcome, however in case of any symptoms, the doctor must be informed immediately. Some of the more common side effects are: joint disorders, back pain, bronchitis, abdominal pain, cough, dizziness, hair loss, headache, and high blood pressure, indigestion, itching, loss of appetite, mouth ulcers, nausea, rash, respiratory infection, diarrhea, sore throat, stomach inflammation, tendon inflammation, urinary tract infection, vomiting, weakness, weight loss. Arava can damage your liver, and there are chances that your doctor will conduct blood tests before you undergo therapy. It is also advised that you do not. take Arava if you are suffering from liver diseases like Hepatitis. Arava can stay in the body and damage the immune system. Therefore it should not be taken if you have cancer, AIDS, or bone marrow problems. Skin infections arising out of regular use may develop. If the problem persists then discontinue or immediately notify your doctor. Arava is not recommended incase of pregnancy, neither should it be consumed if breastfeeding. If taken during pregnancy, it may cause harmful birth defects. Dosage depends on what the doctor prescribes for you, however the dosage does decrease after the first 3 days of consumption. Incase a dose is missed then the consequent dose should be taken as and when you remember, but do not take a double dose. Knowing about your disease or condition is one of the first steps in understanding what can be done to sustain a healthy lifestyle. Nearly three million Americans live with rheumatoid arthritis. This year about 200,000 more - many in there 20s, 30s, and 40s - will learn that they have the disease. But as aware consumers one must challenge the liberty of the pharma companies in manufacturing defective and hazardous drugs.
