Cardura is used in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, a condition in which the prostate gland grows larger, pressing on the urethra and threatens to block the flow of urine from the bladder. This drug relieves symptoms such as a weak stream, dribbling, incomplete emptying of the bladder, frequent urination, and burning during urination. Cardura is also used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It is effective when used alone or in combination with other blood pressure medications, such as diuretics, beta-blocking medications, calcium channel blockers or ACE inhibitors. People with high blood pressure must take this drug regularly although Cardura does not cure blood pressure; it certainly keeps it under control. WARNINGS ABOUT THIS DRUG Cardura can cause low blood pressure. You can become faint, dizzy, and weak. Men can develop priapism-along lasting erection that can be painful and may last for hours, which may lead to impotence. Cardura can lower blood count, and your doctor must study you when you are on prescription. Dizziness/ feeling sleepy and drowsiness are also some signs; therefore one must avoid doing activities that require full mental alertness. Cardura is not advised for pregnant women, because cardura may appear in breast milk and subsequently enter the infant. SIDE EFFECTS The most common side effects that arise are dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, and headache. Apart from this the person may show some abnormal pain, abnormal vision depression, fluid retention, flushes, itching, joint pain and weakness.
