Celebrex (Generic name: Celecoxib) relieves the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is the first of a new class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) called "COX-2 inhibitors." celebrex fights pain and inflammation by inhibiting the natural enzyme called COX-2. Celebrex does not interfere with COX-1, which makes a protective lining in the stomach, and so it does not cause stomach bleeding or ulcers. Celebrex has also been found to reduce the number of colorectal polyps (growths in the wall of the lower intestine and rectum) in people who suffer from the condition called familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), which is an inherited tendency to develop large numbers of colorectal polyps that eventually become cancerous. Although Celebrex does not cause stomach bleeding and ulcers, it does pose a risk if you have suffered from ulcers earlier. You must notify your doctor if you have suffered from ulcers before taking the drug. WHO SHOULD NOT TAKE CELEBREX Although some of the side effects that arise out of the use of Celebrex are not serious enough for you to discontinue use, you must consider medical attention. Common side effects are Cold-like symptoms (fever, sore throat, sneezing, cough), skin rash, headache, sinus inflammation, swelling in the extremities. Burning sensation in chest or stomach, chest congestion, diarrhea, decreased appetite, difficulty in sleeping, flu-like symptoms (muscle aches, weakness, nausea, chills), stomach tenderness, indigestion, back pain, or runny nose. Some other complications like anemia, dehydration, liver problems may also arise.
