Stadol Injection is a sterile, parenteral, aqueous solution of butorphanol tartrate for intravenous or intramuscular administration. Stadol Nasal Spray (Butorphanol Tartrate) is a nasal spray form of analgesic (pain killer) and a prescription drug manufactured by Bristol-Myers Squibb. It is marketed as Stadol Nasal Spray for humans for moderate to serious pain (migraines). There have been a number of reports to the FDA of a significant amount of deaths and severe addictions associated with Stadol. The injectable version took the blame in some of those cases. However the nasal spray has brought most of the complaints. The spray has been linked to hundreds of cases of addiction and numerous deaths. CONTRAINDICATIONS Stadol Injection and Stadol NS are contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to butorphanol tartrate or the preservative benzethonium chloride in Stadol NS or Stadol Injection in the multi-dose vial. PRECAUTIONS There have been reports of hypertension association with syncope during the first hour of dosing with Stadol, particularly in patients with past history of similar reactions to opioid analgesics. Therefore, patients should be advised to avoid activities with potential risks. ADVERSE REACTIONS Some of the adverse reactions that are associated with the use of Stadol are unpleasant taste, nausea, vomiting, constipation, anorexia, respiratory depression, rash, hives, clamminess, excessive diaphoresis, sensation of heat, confusion, nervousness, lethargy, headache, somnolence, dizziness, insomnia, anxiety, paresthesia, euphoria, hallucinations, flushing, increased intracranial pressure, palpitations, vasodilation, hypertension, blurred vision, nasal congestion (with nasal spray), tinnitus.
