FIRE-just a four-letter word with a lot of power in it. Power to destroy, power to make something out of nothing. In fact earth too once upon a time was nothing but a ball of fire. The sun, which makes our existence possible today, is energy that is the basic life giver. Can we think about how life would have been without our ancestors not discovering the magic of flames? We can create fire as well as stop it up to a certain extent. Even though we have come a long way from where our former generations began we still cannot protect ourselves well enough to be able to fight these burning flames completely when they decide to roar up. Our alertness and our sensibility can actually save us from a lot of harm that we could bring upon ourselves. If we only keep the basic rules in our mind which will safeguard our lives, we can assure ourselves a good distance from harm's way. It would surprise you to know that more deaths are caused by fire accidents than by natural calamities like hurricanes, earthquakes, floods etc. put together. Everyone knows of the saying "Charity begins at home". How about we change it, for the time being, to "Safety begins at home". Some really easy methods could actually protect your home, smoke alarms for example. It is available at every handy store near your house and is a great help to prevent fire from starting as it detects the smoke around and even if the fire has begun it can be put out quickly and efficiently if are warned rather than you being caught completely unaware. These alarms are usually installed in all commercial premises. Besides this these places are also equipped with efficient escape plans and fire extinguishers of the volume required by the premises. Even though fire is a natural phenomenon we can use fire to our advantage in whichever way we choose. In our day-to-day life for example the flame is what we cook a meal on the flame that we sit by when we need warmth, we need it for something even as small as lighting a cigarette. Fire can also make many of our festivities fancier and more memorable in the form of fancy fireworks that make for a magnificent display of beauty in the skies and add even more zest to our celebrations. In fact fire is also worshipped by a group of people known as Zoroastrians. Hence giving it a very mystical form. Fire plays the role of god for these people and they have fascinating mythological stories to show how important fire is to them. Herewith we understand the importance of fire in our existence and our survival. Without it, it almost seems unimaginable in spite of its nature to destroy, cause we know it also builds.
