Weekend Reno Auto Accident Leaves One Dead, Three Injured

E-mail Print

Sunday drivers, as the myth goes, are those that take a leisurely drive at slow speeds and generally avoid risks and danger.  Tragically, that is not what resulted this past Sunday when a Reno auto accident left one person dead and three more injured.  The crash occurred at 4:15 p.m. and the woman who was killed was a resident of Minnesota.  The crash occurred on South Virginia Street just in front of Tamarack Casino.

According to reports, a 1932 Ford Roadster was traveling down South Virginia Street near the casino when the other vehicle, turned in front of it.  Even though the driver of the Roadster had time to put pressure on the brakes, it was apparently not enough time to avoid a violent collision.  One of the passengers in the Roadster was killed and three other people were injured and transported to Renown Regional Medical Center with injuries of varying degrees of severity.

Sadly, this tragedy is far from uncommon in Nevada.  Every year, more than 350 people are killed in Nevada auto accidents, which equates to more than 7 fatalities every week or one every single day.  This statistical trend has remained constant for several years despite numerous efforts to promote safety to those who get behind the wheel.

Las Vegas Pedestrian Accident Injures Girl

E-mail Print

Nevada pedestrian accidents occur at a rate that's much higher than many would guess, and the fact remains that those who travel on foot are encountering risks every time they do so.  Even though parents teach their children to be wary of vehicles when they move around on foot, few children completely understand the nature of these risks.  Unfortunately, an 11-year-old girl learned a painful lesson this morning as she walked to school.  That lesson is that drivers will sometimes make mistakes that lead to injuries.

This pedestrian accident occurred at 7:30 this morning in the 2800 block of Palomino Lane in front of Howard Wasden Elementary School.  According to witness reports, one driver was heading west on the street when the girl started crossing the street in the crosswalk.  This driver stopped to allow the girl to cross, but another vehicle that was traveling east on the same road in a white Honda apparently did not see her and struck her.

The girl was sent to University Medical Center, and reports indicated that she may have suffered a broken leg.  The driver was cited by police for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.  It also appears that no additional investigation will be needed given that the accident occurred during the day with witnesses in the area who provided accounts of what had occurred.

Las Vegas Pedestrian Accident Statistics

Unfortunately, not everyone who is harmed in Nevada pedestrian accidents are fortunate enough to survive these incidents.  More than 50 pedestrians are killed every year in Nevada, and the vast majority of them involve pedestrians being hit by moving vehicles.  Basically, approximately one person every week is killed somewhere in the state while traveling on foot, and this trend has held steady in recent years.

Fatal Henderson Bicycle Accident Claims Life of 13-Year-Old Boy

E-mail Print

Just about every 13-year-old boy has a bicycle, and he will normally use his bike for everything from recreation to transportation.  One common use of bicycles by boys of this age is to get to and from school.  Yesterday, an area boy was doing just that at around 7 a.m. when a Henderson bicycle accident took place that prematurely claimed his life.  The boy was not wearing a helmet at the time, and the details of the crash are gruesome.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Warm Springs Road and Pueblo Boulevard, and according to witness accounts, the boy was heading in an eastward direction on Warm Springs when a minivan that was coming to the intersection from Pueblo Boulevard drove into the intersection for some reason and collided with the boy.  The boy was thrown for a distance of 20 feet, and despite receiving immediate help from nearby witnesses, he was killed almost immediately.

At this point, the police have ruled out the presence of alcohol, drugs or reckless speeding as potential causes of the crash, but they also stated that the investigation is ongoing and that no final decision has been made in regards to potential criminal charges against the driver of the minivan.

Nevada Bicycle Accident Attorneys

This Henderson bicycle accident is just one of way too many such accidents that occur around the United States every year.  On average, almost 700 people are killed and another 43,000 are injured in bicycle accidents around the country, and experts estimate that as many as 90 percent of these bicycle accidents involve collisions with vehicles that are much larger than any bicycle.

Contact a Henderson Wrongful Death Lawyer

If the family of the boy who was killed decides to bring a legal action against the driver of the minivan, the case would likely be brought under the legal theory of wrongful death.  These can be very difficult cases to bring for families given the emotion involved, so if you have lost someone before his or her time because of negligence, seek the help of a Henderson wrongful death lawyer who can capably handle the case for you and fight for your rights.  Contact the Sam Harding Law Firm today to schedule a free initial consultation.

Fatal Summerlin Auto Accident Claims One Person's Life, Injured Another

E-mail Print

Nevada auto accidents occur on a daily basis, and one could spend considerable time trying to list all of the contributing factors that lead to these crashes.  While some causes of Nevada auto accidents are quite obvious, including the failure to yield the right-of-way, drinking and driving and the like, others are much less common.  Tragically, one woman lost her life in a Summerlin auto accident because of an apparent medical problem.

According to official reports, the crash occurred on Friday morning when a woman was moving southward on High Range Drive when she lost control of her vehicle, passed through a 'T' intersection at Button Willow Drive and smashed into a brick wall.  The woman was killed and her passenger, who was also her husband, was injured in the crash.  Authorities are not yet sure what specifically caused the crash, but they seem to believe that a medical problem arose, possibly from choking on food she was eating at the time.

Nevada Laws and Fatal Auto Accidents

This fatal Summerlin auto accident raises two points.  First, it's believed that this is already the 23rd fatal Las Vegas auto accident of the year, and an average of approximately 250 such fatal auto accidents occur in Clark County on an annual basis.  Approximately 400 people are killed in Nevada auto accidents state-wide every year.  Secondly, while this case is a tragedy and it's highly unlikely that the injured man would pursue a legal claim against a family member, this situation should highlight the fact that in general, drivers are responsible for their passengers' safety.

If a driver is negligent and causes an auto accident that injures anyone in his or her vehicle, it could give rise to a Nevada personal injury lawsuit even if the driver is seriously injured or worse.  However, those types of cases often involve the gathering of specific facts and causes before such a claim can responsibly be filed.

Las Vegas Auto Accident Injured Nevada Highway Patrolman, Two Others

When a police cruiser stops at the scene of an accident, most people assume that everyone in the area is safe.  That notion was proven wrong in a Las Vegas auto accident yesterday when a Nevada Highway Patrolman stopped to check on a minor accident.  Another vehicle crashed into the scene and injured the patrolman and two other people, one seriously.  The person who was seriously injured was at the scene to provide a witness statement to the original accident.
