Fire engines are not only enormous vehicles, but they are enormous vehicles that tend to travel at high rates of speed and that must navigate through spots that can be extremely tight.  While the vast majority of fire engine trips are completed without incident, that does not mean that nothing can go wrong.  Unfortunately, something went very wrong a few weeks ago in a Boulder City fire engine accident that crushed the legs of a woman who was on-foot nearby.

The accident occurred on April 4th in Boulder City when firefighters responded to a fire call on the 1500 block of Nevada Highway.  Seeing that there was no fire, the fire engine attempted to turn around after stopping in a trailer park.  While in the process of turning around, a woman came to stand alongside the fire engine and was waving her arms and screaming after she came out of her home after hearing a loud noise.

It turns out that the noise was the fire engine hitting a stack of railroad ties.  The railroad ties then hit the woman who fell and was run over by the fire engine.  The crash left her with crushed legs and the firefighters on the scene were flagged down by witnesses and rendered aid.  The woman remains in the hospital and an investigation revealed that the firefighter driving the truck was at fault in the accident.
