Las Vegas False Imprisonment Case Goes Against Casino

E-mail Print
Most people think of certain situations when the term 'Las Vegas personal injury law' is put to them.  Many consider such occurrences as auto accidents, slip and falls, batteries and other common scenarios.  While these situations are quite common, there are other issues that are meant to be handled by Nevada personal injury law, and one of them is a claim known as false imprisonment.

False imprisonment is basically the detention of a person against his or her will without legal authority to do so and without any legitimate reason.  In Las Vegas, these situations can arise often in casinos for many reasons.  Such appears to be the case with a casino guest who made this claim against The Venetian (located at 3355 Las Vegas Boulevard South) based on a situation that played out in 2004.

Apparently the guest, who is from New York, received a ride back to the parking garage of the casino with three other people who were not guests there.  When the car pulled into the garage, it was surrounded by Venetian security vehicles who detained the people claiming that the vehicle they were using had been involved in a Las Vegas hit-and-run accident moments earlier.

The four passengers in the vehicle denied any knowledge of the incident, but they were ordered to leave.  The plaintiff who was a guest at the casino was escorted to his suite to empty his belongings but ultimately refused to do so.  In response, the security team handcuffed him and shackled him to a floor in a security room before being taken to a local jail for several hours.  The criminal charges filed against him were ultimately dismissed.

Eventually, a jury awarded the plaintiff $200,000.00 in damages, and this case serves as an example of what can happen if someone takes the law into his or her own hands without proper authority.  If you or someone you love has been wrongfully detained or battered, you need the help of a Las Vegas personal injury lawyer who understands the different types of claims that can arise and how to hold those responsible for harm accountable.  Contact the Sam Harding Law Firm today to schedule a free initial consultation.
