Woman Has Bail Set at $100,000 for Fatal Las Vegas DUI Accident

Drinking and driving can bring about several different forms of liability, particularly if someone who has been drinking and gets behind the wheel causes a DUI accident.  This situation is especially severe if someone is found guilty of causing a Las Vegas DUI accident that leads to a fatality, as was allegedly the case with a woman who was arrested recently for a crash that left another person dead.

The crash occurred when the suspect rear-ended the victim, and the victim died soon thereafter.  What's worse for the defendant and for the person who was killed is that as it turns out, this is not the first DUI arrest for the accused.  She was convicted of DUI in 2001, and now has admitted to having several drinks at a local bar before attempting to drive home and taking another person's life on the way.

Nevada DUI accidents that prove to be fatal are an unfortunately common occurrence.  In general, between 125 and 150 people are killed every year in Nevada DUI accidents, and this represents about one-third of all traffic fatalities.  This is troubling, and while Nevada criminal law imposes stiff penalties for those who are convicted of vehicular manslaughter, it's up to the family of the deceased to decide whether or not to hold the driver accountable in civil court.

In situations in which the defendant has basically admitted to fault, it is generally a good idea to bring forth a civil claim.  Las Vegas DUI accident lawyers who have the experience necessary to properly pursue these rights should be able to obtain justice in the form of monetary damages.  Obviously, this is not going to bring the victim back, but it will allow for some level of comfort for those who have been forced to say good-bye before they should have had to do so.

If you or someone you love has been injured by a drunk driver, you need the help of a Las Vegas auto accidents lawyer who understands how to hold every type of defendant accountable.  Contact the Sam Harding Law Firm today to schedule a free initial consultation.
